Chatsworth House in Derbyshire reviewed by MumknowsBest

What is it...

Chatsworth is one of Britain's best loved historic houses and estates. We offer something for everyone to enjoy, from famous works of art, young animals and the spectacular fountains in the garden to the finest shopping, food and drink and many miles of free walks. The home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire is set in the magnificent landscape of Derbyshire's Peak District National Park.

Why MumKnowsBest Loves it...

Chatsworth is one of those places where you can keep visiting and get something different out of it every time. For younger children, the Adventure Playground and Farmyard are a real hit. The playground, which is set in the wood, has some amazing rope walks, spiral slides and even a commando wire (a sort of death slide). Little ones can climb the smaller wooden frames, play in the sand and learn how to bore for water in a stream, while watching it trickle through a network of metal gullies into the sand.

The farm, meanwhile has lots of cute creatures and if you go in Spring or Summer there are plenty of calves, foals and chicks to be seen. There are daily milking demonstrations and the children were able to get right up close to pet the ponies and other animals, getting a friendly lick from some of them.

The loos and changing facilities at Chatsworth are excellent, even award-winning, which makes the trip a lot easier and the café is great and very child friendly.

The main house is probably not such a draw for younger children but the gardens are great anytime of year and especially stunning in the Autumn. They are varied enough to give even the youngest of children a great time exploring while the maze is another attraction for little and big kids alike.

Booking on-line is cheaper, so check online for prices.
