A pram or pushchair is probably the most difficult and expensive purchase you'll make for your baby. There are so many different types, so it's probably best to work out what you will suit your lifestyle best.
Here are some questions to ask yourself before buying a pram:
*Do you need a double buggy if you have another child who is still very young?
*Will you be going on rough terrain or country walks?
*How big is the boot of your car?
*Will you be using public transport?
*Do you live in a town or city or in the countryside?
*How heavy is the pram you like? (Especially if you live in a flat and have to carry it up the stairs)
*Will your baby be safe and secure? Are the breaks good?
*How comfortable is the pram for you and your baby?
*How much space do you have at home?
*Where will you keep it?
*How long do you want to use the pram for?
*Do you want your baby to face towards you?
*Last but not least - budget!
N.B. Whatever pram you buy it is important that a baby from birth to the age of at least 3 months can lie completely flat.
Pram types:
Complete travel systems with an integrated car-seat so you don't need to wake or move your baby from car to pram. There are also travel systems with autocarry cots, in other words a carry cot for the pram which can be transferred straight to the car
Three-in-one - includes carrycot and a separate convertible pushchair which will face forward or face you. From birth to toddler
Two-in-one - the seat unit converts from a cot to a pushchair for when baby is bigger. Pushchair can also face forward or face you
Three-wheelers - great for rough terrain and excellent manoeuvrability - some also come with carry-cots
Strollers and Buggies - lightweight, straight-forward prams. Many have full lie-back facilities so are suitable from birth to toddler. Fold up small. Perfect for town or holidays
Double Buggies - for twins or a newborn and another young child. Can come as strollers, three-wheelers, side by side or tandem pushchairs (one behind the other) or like the Phil & Teds brand, one underneath other, ideal if you want a short and narrow pushchair for two
Triple Buggies - need we say more!
Mumknowsbest.co.uk Tip:
Don't forget to check that your pram includes a raincover. You might also want to get hold of a footmuff, shopping basket, parasol or sunblind for your pram.
