Tonsilectomy for a 3 year old
My little girl has got to have her tonsils and adenoids out next week and potentially her ears drained and she's only 3 1/2! Has anyone else had a little one go through this and if so, how was it all?

Good Luck
Hi Victoria, I havent had any of my children have this treatment, but in my sons' class 3 boys had their tonsils and adenoids out within weeks of each other. They all tried to schedule the treatment around the half terms so that obviously as little time was taken off school(One of the boys' ears were also a concern, and fortunately he didn't need the grommits they initially thought)All the mums stayed with them overnight, and were home the next day if not the day after, and the prescribed painkillers were effective and were taken for about a week. This also meant that the mums stayed in for about a week, and found their children were more drowsy and happy to stay at home anyway.I hope all goes well, and at least your daughter is old enough for you to help her understand why she's having the treatment. As I understand it from other mums, this is obviously something that needs to be done as our local medical centre that has to schedule the treatments will only do so if really necessary so your little girl will be ok.

My son was 18 months...
Hiya My son had this done when he was 18 months old and its the best thing that could have happened to him. He went through the operation well and came out and ate within 2 hrs. We took him home and the first 3 days were a real worry and he was poorly, but then he picked up and was fine. I wouldn't worry - he hasn't looked back and he's 3 and a half now and hasn't been ill other than chicken pox since. Good luck - lots of ice cream and yogurts and jelly and you need to also feed them rough food like toast etc as this is the way they heal. We worried he wasn't eating enough but honest it was fine! You'll not look back!
