Are you concerned about the threat of falling ash?

Updated information from the Met Office indicates that a small fraction of ash is expected to start falling to ground level in the UK today but the concentration of particles is likely to be low. Experts say that the falling ash should not cause serious harm, but could cause itchy eyes, sore throats and a runny nose. If you already have breathing problems like asthma, emphysema and bronchitis then the falling ash could bring on attacks so what should you do?
Make sure you carry your inhaler or medication with you at all times. If you notice a dusty haze in the air or can smell sulphur, rotten eggs or a strong acidic smell or have any symptoms such as sore eyes, throat or runny nose then try and stay inside. People who wear contact lenses may want to avoid wearing their lenses in areas where ash falls.
