New rights for fathers

Additional Paternity Leave (APL) came into force on 6th April 2010 and gives new fathers the right to take up to six months paternity leave. Although it only applies to fathers of babies due on or after 3rd April 2011 (or for adoptive fathers who are notified as having been matched with a child on or after 3rd April 2011), employers will need to start preparing for APL now as they could be dealing with enquiries now (i.e. nine months before April 2011!).
