Additional Paternity Leave (APL) came into force on 6^th April 2010 and gives new fathers the right to take up to six months paternity leave.  Although it only applies to fathers of babies due on or after 3^rd April 2011 (or for adoptive fathers who are notified as having been matched with a child on or after 3^rd April 2011), employers will need to start preparing for APL now as they could be dealing with enquiries now (i.e. nine months before April 2011!).
