The Maldives

The Maldives has a reputation of being a romantic, honeymoon-ey sort of place, but there are a few hotels that are completely child-friendly, with some good offers around at the moment.
One of them, Island Hideaway at Dhonakulhi Maldives Spa Resort & Marina, offers a kind of barefoot, rustic luxury with a wonderful spa, white powdery beaches, amazing snorkelling and diving, and the rather kitschly-named Tender Hearts Club for children.
The club has its own sandy playground, library, board games and activity programme ranging from sandcastle masterclasses to island cycle rides and Robinson Crusoe-style treasure hunts. Children can explore the island's natural habitat and discover the resident fruit bats, a variety of tropical birds, lizards, and incredible rainbow-coloured fish (Nemo and friends included). All 43 villas are located on the beach and sleep two adults and two children and each one comes with a private butler, who can even help with simple childcare duties.
In June, a week costs from £3,970 per family, thanks to some generous discounts from Elegant Resorts, based on two adults and two children sharing, B&B accommodation, return economy flights with Emirates, transfers by plane and speedboat. Visit www.island-hideaway.com to be tempted and www.elegantresorts.co.uk for details of the offer.
