As my child starts school how can I prevent her catching all the coughs and colds that go around nurseries and schools?
Unfortunately, coughs and colds that go around nurseries are a natural part of childhood and nigh on impossible to avoid. The typical child, for example, will have had an average of 8 colds in the first 18 months of life.
Of course you can aim to reduce the risk by ensuring your child is well nourished, receiving all the vitamins and minerals she needs to ensure a healthy immune system. Also ensure she is well rested, as chronic tiredness predisposes children and adults to getting "run down" and more prone to catching illnesses. You may want to avoid play dates if you know her little friend is unwell with a nasty cough or cold.
Most importantly though, it is important to make sure your child is protected and immunised.
